Welcome to www.2000BJ.com, the home of:

Although we are aware that the New Millennium didn't correctly begin until 2001*, Burton Joyce, Bulcote and Stoke Bardolph followed popular opinion and celebrated at the start of 2000.

A committee was formed in 1998 to organise the fund-raising events that were so essential to the villages' plans.

It was intended that there would be permanent gifts to the villages to mark the Millennium, these included:

Pointer an annual award to a pupil attending the village primary school

Pointer a feature sundial set in a prominent location (with a time capsule buried beneath)

Pointer a trim trail around the perimeter of the sports ground

Pointer renovation of the Carnarvon Room (jointly with the Parochial Church Council)

Pointer planting of poplar trees along the river bank between Burton Joyce and Stoke Bardolph (jointly with the Severn Trent Water Authority) and

Pointer restoration of the Old School Building's Clock (jointly with the Parish Council)

In addition, a celebratory party was planned for the night of 31st December 1999 in which all the residents and their friends were invited to partake

Obviously, a great deal of money needed to be generated to see these plans through to fruition. There were many fund-raising events during the years before (and months after) and we thank all those concerned for giving their valuable support. We also take pleasure in thanking everyone who sponsored one or more of the 123 poplar trees that were planted along Stoke Lane on 5th December (a list of sponsors can be viewed online by clicking here).

Details follow of some of the events that led up to "The Party Night" and beyond:
